The region’s unemployment rate was 4.7% for the December 2020 quarter according to latest data released from the National Skills Commission. This figure provides insights into how COVID-19 has impacted unemployment in the region over the nine months from the start of COVID-19 restrictions being imposed.

This rate is the region’s highest unemployment rate since March 2019, reflecting the impact of COVID-19. The region’s unemployment rate climbed 1.6% in 2020, however still remained under 5% as record tourist visitation and the region’s diversified economy assisted in the employment of residents.
